The Nordic Baltic conference on forest operations - OSCAR 2010

The Operations Systems Centre of Advanced Research.
For improved Nordic R&D co-operation in the field of operation systems in forestry

On behalf of the Norwegian Forest & Landscape Institute and the OSCAR management committee we are very pleased to announce that the next OSCAR research conference will be held at Honne Conference Centre (123 km north of Oslo Airport Gardemoen), Norway, on October Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd, 2010.

Following in the NSR tradition and the more recent successful meetings in Tartu and Copenhagen, we have initiated the process of organising an exciting programme of research presentations, networking and an interactive excursion in the beautiful setting of Lake Mjøsa.

As you are probably aware, OSCAR co-operation has been extended for a second term. This bi-ennial meeting will provide a good opportunity for researchers in forest operations and related disciplines to come together in ensuring that we get the maximum synergy out of it.

Call for abstracts
Please submit your abstract of max. 2 pages by March 31st, 2010. Only the abstracts will be published in the proceedings, leaving you free to publish your full manuscript elsewhere. The subject matter could be within the following fields:

  • Machine and machine-systems performance analysis
  • Process modelling and control 
  • Transport and materials handling
  • Geographical information – modelling and interpretation 
  • Ergonomics, the work environment and safety 
  • Small scale and urban forestry operations
  • Supply chain management and associated methods & technologies
  • Environmental impacts, Energy and Emissions
  • Entrepreneurs, business process engineerng and quality assurance

The Honne Conference center is located 1.5 hour train transport north of Gardermoen, and is the perfect place for hosting the conference. They have a modern auditory for larger audiences, suitable rooms for smaller committee meetings and free internet access. After the scheduled program they have beautiful tracks if you want fresh air, shotgun simulator and sauna in the basement, and a nice "gapahuk" for those who like to study the flames in the bonfire. Detailed travel instructions from Oslo Airport Gardermoen will follow soon.

The conference fee is set to NOK 2500 (~310€ ), and covers the participation on the conference, excursion, lunch and dinners. The cost of the rooms is NOK 650 per night for single rooms and NOK 500 (per person) for double rooms. If you want to share room, please agree with the other roommate before you make your registration.

Extraordinary funding for researchers from the Baltic countries.
To strengthen the contribution from the Baltic countries (EE. LT. LV.) we are proud to announce that the Norwegian Research Council will sponsor up to 15 participants from these countries (covering hotel and registration costs - ca. NOK 5 000). These grants will be awarded by the organising committee after evaluating the submitted abstracts.
